This weekend will be exciting. I can’t wait.
Having come back from the ProBASE World Cup in Istanbul I have new adventures to look forward to. On Saturday I will part of the Pilgrim Bandits Guinness World Skydiving Record attempt to do the most tandem skydives in a day. There will be lots of jumping and a great atmosphere. I’m really looking forward to seeing the guys from the charity after the success of last year.
L/Bdr Ben Parkinson MBE is a double amputee and great fun to jump with. He’s got a cheeky sense of humour and just can’t get enough of crazy and seemingly impossible challenges. He inspires me, he really does. I’d like to think that, if I was in his situation, I could do what he does. I’d love to say I could handle it like him, but the truth is, I probably couldn’t. His get up and go is just so amazingly powerful.
I’ll also be jumping with Lucy Aldridge. She’s the mother of the youngest soldier to die in Afghanistan. While I was serving in Afghanistan I had the honour to place a wrist band on her sons memorial plaque in Sangin and bow my head in a two minute silence in remembrance. I was also in Lashkar Gah during the Transition ceremony when Governor Gulab Mangal, gave a speech citing Lucy and the sacrifice her son gave. Lucy lost her son while he was serving our country and it is very humbling for me to be able to jump with her.
There will be many others too that are either supporters of the charity, benefactors of the charity or people just along to be part of the record. Whichever group they fall in to everyone will be there to set a record and enjoy themselves. It’s exciting to be part of it and I know the energy, buzz and hype will be amazing. I’m excited.
