Five BASE jumps from the tallest residential building in Europe – check.
What a day it has been. Not only have the qualification rounds been completed but so has round 1 of the Istanbul Showdown, the first stop of the ProBASE World Cup Tour.
Conditions were decent but difficult. The sun glaring down on us and thermic winds kept it changeable. Competitors got both lift and sink when they least expected it.
I haven’t seen the scores yet but here’s what I’ve heard. Chris “Douggs” McDougall was doing great in training but had a bad round 1 however he’s great at these competitions and will come back strong. Mike Swanson, Skydive Dubai, and Jay Moledzki, PD Factory Team, had an impressive round alongside last years champion Miles Daisher.
Skydive Dubai’s Julian Boulle had a toggle blow out after a really hard opening. He had to throw the other toggle (symmetry is important) and had to use his rear risers to an impressive stand-up landing on the target – way to go Julian.
I had a perfect round in one of my training jumps. In round one I had great scores for the freefall delay and heading performance on opening but my accuracy was ok, but not great. Still, a steady round one.
The weather is due to worsen to at lunch time tomorrow so we’re meeting at 0830 to get as much in as we can.
There’s everything still to play for so keep checking back for more updates.
